WinCaffeinate Privacy Statement
WinCaffeinate is a lightweight utility for Windows that prevents your computer from sleeping or turning off the display. It does not collect personal data. Here's a plain-language summary of the two things it does over the network, and nothing else:
Last updated: 9 Sep 2026 — rewritten as a shorter privacy statement; same disclosures as before, condensed.
- No telemetry. No usage stats or analytics are ever sent. Settings live locally in
%APPDATA%\WinCaffeinate\UserSettings.json and never leave your device.
- Update checks. On startup, or when you press Check for Updates, the app fetches a static
version.json from my server — a plain, anonymous request with no identifiers attached — to see if a newer build exists. Updating is always manual; nothing auto-downloads or auto-installs.
- Bug/suggestion reports. Only sent if you fill in the Report tab and press Submit — never automatic. It includes what you wrote, the app's version info, and (for bugs) your Windows version string. Your IP is seen by the server only for spam/rate-limiting, not linked to the report. Reports become issues on my git server and go no further.
- These two are the only network connections WinCaffeinate makes — no hidden tracking, no third-party sharing.
- The app is intended to comply with relevant UK legislation (Online Safety Act, Computer Misuse Act) and is safe for personal or enterprise use.
Thank you for using WinCaffeinate!
